Frequently Asked Questions                                                                                                                 Taking Care of Your Septic System

Q: Why do I have to have my septic tank pumped out?

A: As sludge builds up at the bottom of the tank, it can eventually reach the outlet level, blocking water from being evacuated into the leach field. Pumping out the sludge avoids costly repairs.

Q: How often do I have to have my tank pumped?

A: Every two years is recommended.

Q: Why do you use a jetter?

A: When the sludge accumulates in the bottom of the septic tank, it turns from sludge to solids. Using the jetter is the only way to dislodge that solid.

Q: My tank looks full. When do I know when I have to have it pumped?

A: It's normal for a tank to have water up to six inches from the top, and that doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be pumped, unless it has been two years or more since it was last pumped out. However, if there is gurgling in the toilet or tub, or a foul odor coming from the toilet or sewage backing up into the tub, it could mean you need to have it pumped.

Q: Does a new septic system come with a warranty?

A: Yes, a lifetime warranty, as long as you have it pumped every two years.

Tree and shrub roots can cause major problems in septic lines, causing the system to malfunction.
